A broken exhaust system. What to do?

Unfortunately, failures appear in the least expected moments for us. The same is true with the failure of the exhaust system, and more specifically with its breakdown. Unfortunately, we are not always able to cope alone with its repair.

The exhausted exhaust system is associated primarily with a huge noise, which arises because of the shorter route of escape of exhaust gases into the atmosphere. In extreme cases, the breaking off also provides a visual effect in the form of escaping sparks from under the vehicle. Why? Because the broken part of the exhaust, together with the vehicle’s movement, rubs on the surface where friction occurs, the side effect is the emergence of sparks, which can be dangerous.

WHEN DOES THE EXHAUST SYSTEM CLEAR?

To break off the exhaust system most often occurs when driving down or uphill under the high curb and fast driving on unevenness. In extreme cases, there is the possibility of a situation when an element protruding from the surface of the road will be hooked on our exhaust system, and the effect of this impact will be breaking out.

If you break the exhaust while driving, the first thing you need to do is stop immediately in a safe place. Remember to avoid stopping on the road, because this behavior is a threat to traffic, what is more, the police can punish us with a ticket. Also, when trying to find the perfect place to stop, try to avoid the vehicle under high curbs. When our vehicle is stopped in a safe place, we can proceed to an appropriate diagnosis.

The most common reason for the sudden occurrence of a problem with the exhaust system is to jump out the rubber element responsible for the installation of the exhaust pipe for fasteners. In this case, we have nothing else but to re-assemble using the same rubber element. Unfortunately, you should be aware that it will be necessary to replace it, because most likely in a short period of time the problem will appear again. The cost of a rubber element is very small and its replacement is very easy. Another reason for the exhaust system to break off is damage to the metal mount. Unfortunately, in this case, we are not able to do anything. Of course, many people in this case try to “breathe in” for a while, however, I advise against this type of solution. If, however, we decide not to use it, the best is tying wire. It is unacceptable to use even a string, because the temperature of the exhaust system simply contributes to its burning.

In most cases, the reason for the expiration of the exhaust is its poor technical condition, and more specifically the presence of rust, which significantly destroys it.

If the car is not hung under the car, the exhaust system should be looked for somewhere else. The exhaust manifold often leaks. In this case, we can try further driving, the aim of which should be a car workshop. Driving with a damaged exhaust system will result in both noisy operation and higher fuel consumption.

Remember, if the major part of our exhaust system is on the road, there is nothing else but to use roadside assistance that will safely transport our car to the mechanic.
