Fiat Ducato is a car manufactured by the Italian group Fiat in cooperation with the French group PSA (Citroen and Peugeot). Its sale began on October 23, 1981.
At present, it is the most popular van in Poland, which is also used by the state services in our country (police, ambulance, fire brigade).
This model is very popular because it is the largest car offered by Fiat. Competitive models of this vehicle include Ford Transit, Iveco Daily, Mercedes-Benz T1, Renault Master, whether Volkswagen LT. Despite considerable competition, the car has been on the first place for 9 years on our Polish market among commercial vehicles under 3.5 tonnes.
The debut, first version of the model replaced the Fiat 238 model. The first version of the car was produced for 13 years.
The van type vehicle was characterized by a box-like body with original rectangular headlights. The car was available in two basic equipment versions, S and SX.
Initially, the car was available for purchase in four payload variants, i.e.
1000 kg, 1300 kg, 1400 kg and 1800 kg in so-called Ducato Maxi 18 version.
The vehicle’s drive was transmitted to the front axle thanks to a five-speed manual gearbox.
Under the hood there were four-cylinder gasoline engines with a capacity of 1.8 and power 69 HP and 2.0 and 75, 78 and 84 HP. In the case of diesel, it was possible to purchase a 1.9 D version car with 69 HP, 1.9TD and 82 HP, as well as 24D and 24 TD versions with 72 and 92 HP, as well as 25D and 25TD with 75 and 95 HP.
In 1989, the Talento model, which was the successor to the 242 model, came to the market for consumers. The capacity of this model was 800 kg, and the engine versions proposed by the manufacturer were 2.0 petrol and 1.9 D diesel. Fiat Scudo became the successor of this model.
The first generation of the model was produced with the twin models Citroen C25, Peugeot J5 or Alfa Romeo AR6, however during subsequent versions the production of identical models was limited to Citroen Jumper and Peugeot Boxer.

The main factor that focused on creating the new version was the optimization of the drag coefficient, thanks to which Cx = 0.35 was achieved, and this caused that the second generation of the model was characterized by a nice shape, surface smoothness and a rounded silhouette. A visible change in the style of the vehicle is also the use of double-glazed windows, which allowed for practical use.
In 2000, the factory in Brazil left the Ducato Maxi model whose dmc was 3.5 tons and the load capacity of this vehicle is 1800 kg.
In addition to this configuration of the model on the world markets, one could also meet, among others station wagon, minibus or cabin with load box.
The Ducato II version in its offer, in addition to rich mass and visual capabilities, also offered a wide range of engine options mainly focusing on diesel engines.
In the case of a gasoline engine, the manufacturer initially limited it only to version 2.0 with 109 hp, it is in this model that you can see our promotional catalyst number: 824FIAT1338014080 / 4K12-J595 / LYUX-02.
In 2002, gasoline versions were expanded to 2.0 Natural Power (CNG) and 2.0 (LPG), which indicates that since then cars could have been powered by gas.
Of course, in 2002 diesel engines also expanded their range of units. The engine capacities that could be afforded ranged from 1.9 to 2.8 l and the maximum power was 127 HP.
During this vehicle modernization, Fiat also equipped its cars with a four-speed automatic transmission.
The wide range of parameters of this amazingly loaded and powerful machine allowed for achieving spectacular success, which was generated with subsequent years and versions.
The third generation of the Ducato model appeared on the world market in 2006 with the presentation of related Peugeot Boxer and Citroen Jumper models. This time the car was designed by Centro Stile Fiat, which managed to achieve a coefficient of air resistance equal to Cx = 0.31, which of course meant that the next version of the van was already in more rounded and shapely shapes.
The manufacturer, in addition to refining the exterior design, which consisted of a strongly inclined front engine bonnet and dynamically designed headlights, also took care of the driver’s comfort while driving. The interior of the vehicle is characteristic of the passenger class, and this makes the use of equipment comfortable and handy.
In the modernized version, gasoline engines were abandoned in favor of diesel with three different capacities and 100, 120, 130 or 157 HP. In 2009, the manufacturer decided to introduce a new 3.0-liter engine capacity, which was created for gas supply (CNG), additionally this engine was equipped with a 15-liter emergency gas tank.
In 2011, several actions were undertaken to refresh the third generation of the model. The most characteristic modernization was the abandonment of the PSA 2.2 engine and its replacement with a 2.0-liter Fiat 2.0 engine. Other engines were also reconstructed, which increased the power to meet the stringent Euro 5 combustion standard.
The next modernization of the vehicle took place in 2014. The interior equipment was enriched, e.g. with a multimedia touch screen, hill start assistant or driving stability system and anti-rollover function. When it comes to engines, the manufacturer stayed with diesel with a capacity of 2, 2.3, 3 liters and 115, 130, 148 and 177 HP.
The high load capacity of the vehicle and low failure rate have made the car extremely popular all over the world. The vehicle convinces with low operating costs and economical fuel consumption. Thanks to its multitasking, it is available to both families and business owners who use vehicle functionality to work in their industry.
By 2017, over 2.7 million copies of this model were sold.
