The beginning of the year is the perfect time to look back on the past year, sum up our achievements and draw conclusions for the future. It is worth considering what we have achieved, what challenges we have overcome and what we can do to make 2025 even more fruitful.
The year 2024 was full of dynamic changes, new initiatives and hard work of the entire team for DS AUTO. Although there were challenges related to market instability and raw material price volatility, we used these difficult circumstances as motivation to continue to grow. Our determination to provide our business partners with the highest level of service and competitive conditions has allowed us to strengthen our position on the market.
We cannot fail to mention the successes that we proudly record in the pages of our history, but the lessons we have learned from more difficult moments are equally important to us. All this means that we enter the new year with even greater enthusiasm and energy, ready to take on new challenges and achieve ambitious goals.
Market situation
The profitability of the activities of companies purchasing and recycling catalytic converters (such as DS AUTO) is largely influenced by the prices of precious metals – platinum, palladium and rhodium.
Platinum and palladium rates have fluctuated over the last 12 months, something we have become accustomed to. However, platinum showed much greater stability. The annual change was less than 9.5%. In the case of palladium, price fluctuations were more pronounced (a change of almost 18%).
In May 2024, the price of platinum exceeded the price of palladium for the first time since 2017, marking a significant turning point in the market. Forecasts for 2024 showed an average platinum price of $1,023 per ounce. However, the reality was less favorable, as can be seen in the chart below.
Why is platinum relatively stable?
The platinum market is a microscopic one – approximately 180 tons of this element are mined annually. Two thirds of this is provided by South African mines, where production is slowly decreasing. Apart from South Africa, Russia and Zimbabwe are also important suppliers of platinum – these three countries are responsible for 90% of global production. For comparison, in 2024 the gold supply amounted to 5,097 tons.
Secondly, despite the previous turmoil, the demand for platinum from the automotive industry is growing again. This metal is also used in jewelry and has numerous applications in the industry (chemical, glass, medical and others).
Thirdly, investor demand for platinum is growing. So we are dealing with a deficit of this metal, which is why its value remains at a similar level.


What should be emphasized is the fact that regardless of the current stock market situation, we provide our Partners with mechanisms that allow them to offset the negative effects of fluctuations.

Time for specifics
In recent months, we have recovered an impressive amount of used catalysts and monolith. We collected and recycled 604.25 Mg of waste code 16 08 01 and 16 08 03.
This would not be possible without teamwork and joint efforts of our partner points located in Poland and European countries.
We have introduced further improvements
To sum up 2024, we can proudly say that it was a time of intensive changes and improvements at DS AUTO, which allowed us to respond even better to the needs of our customers. Here are examples of implemented activities:
1. We have introduced the “efficient contact” badge
It is awarded to partners who distinguish themselves by a quick and effective communication process with customers.
In the purchasing industry, where time is of the essence, features such as immediate response to messages, efficient answering of telephones and quick valuations are the basis for success. The “Efficient Contact” badge emphasizes the professionalism and commitment of partners, while building customer trust.
Thanks to this solution, we have improved transaction processes, shortened order execution time and increased the level of retail customer satisfaction. This is a step that sets new standards for effective cooperation in the industry.
2. Catalyst price history
We have provided a function to preview the minimum and maximum prices of catalysts for the last six months. Thanks to this, our clients can more easily analyze changes in the values of the models they are interested in and make more informed decisions.
3. New currencies
We have expanded the catalog of currencies by adding Romanian leu and Hungarian forint, which significantly facilitated cooperation with clients from these countries. We currently offer valuations in eight currencies, including Polish zlotys, euros, dollars and Czech, Norwegian and Swedish kronor.
4. Expansion of statistics on the home page
We have introduced detailed charts presenting the number of purchased catalysts on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Additionally, we have added the average prices of petrol and diesel models, which allows our customers to better understand how these values have developed over time.
5.Filtering petrol/diesel results
We took into account the differences between gasoline catalytic converters sputtered with palladium and rhodium (whose values have dropped) and diesel catalytic converters containing platinum, which is stable in value. This data has become crucial for many of our clients.
These changes and improvements were the result of our joint efforts and desire to provide the best possible service.

* An interesting article about our activities, which was published on the well-known automotive portal autocentrum.pl, entitled: “Od autokasacji do huty – czyli recykling katalizatorów samochodowych od A do Z“.It presents “behind the scenes” the entire process of recycling used catalytic converters and how it is carried out step by step at DS AUTO.
* DS AUTO was again the winner of the “Eagles of Recycling” Plebiscite. We obtained the honorable second place, but we must mention that the first place went to our Partner, Unimetal Recycling, which recycles the material we collect (code 16 08 01 and 16 08 03).
All in one cause – Let’s be Eco!
Crowds of visitors and thousands of conversations about the environment. About how we can take care of and think about rational waste management in our everyday lives, how to save environmental resources, how to take care of nature and use it. How to strengthen our bodies in a nature-friendly way. How to teach younger generations that taking care of the environment today is a better future tomorrow.
We are proud that our next fair connects and opens new hearts to being eco-friendly every year! We want to promote this fashion as a company and foundation and we will always follow this idea and encourage others to do the same!
* In September we took part in the first edition Recycling Tech – the International Fair of Recycling Technologies and Material Recovery, which took place at Ptak Warsaw Expo.
It was the most important event of the year in the industry. Its aim was to present innovative waste processing technologies and recycling solutions. The fair was a unique opportunity to build business relationships, acquire knowledge and discover trends.
Our delegation presented the possibilities of cooperation with DS AUTO and Unimetal Recycling and the technologies we use to support effective recovery.
Like every year, in June we celebrated Children’s Day. There were plenty of attractions for employees and their families – animations, giant mascots, inflatables, archery competitions, firefighter shows and boxing lessons.

Project title: Development of an innovative, fully automated and mobile catalyst recycling technology
As part of the project, we built a prototype of an automatic system for processing used ceramic catalysts and a ceramic monolith.
The innovative technological line processes catalysts into a form enabling the determination of the content of precious metals, as well as preparation for metallurgical processes leading to the recovery of elements.
Placing the entire processing process in a mobile container structure, divided into individual modules, allows the process to be operated by one person – which is an extremely economical solution.
The technology developed by our design team is a unique solution that allows mobile recycling of catalytic converters in many places.
Summary
The year 2024 was a period of dynamic development and numerous achievements for DS AUTO. We collected and recycled over 604 tons of waste, which shows our huge contribution to environmental protection. Additionally, our website has attracted over 3 million users who have performed over 4 million catalytic converter valuations using our price list.
We have introduced significant improvements to our operations, such as the ability to view historical prices of catalytic converters, expanding the currency catalog to include Romanian leu and Hungarian forint, as well as statistics and charts that help customers better analyze market changes. All these activities resulted in greater transparency and comfort of cooperation.
When it comes to activities aimed at presenting the possibilities resulting from cooperation and spreading awareness of recycling and recovery, our activities in social media have brought excellent results. We reached 10 million users on Facebook and gained 17,000 new followers on TikTok, reaching over 21 million views.
We also took part in Recycling Tech and organized the Chrzanów Eco-Fair, promoting the idea of recycling and sustainable development. We received a distinction in the “Eagles of Recycling” plebiscite, which confirms our belief that we are heading in the right direction.
